Lo-Fi Studios in 2006
2006 was an interesting year for Lo-Fi Studios. The year was dominated by music, including several local rap/hip hop artists, singer songwriters and even a 10 year old singer for a punk band! Sirius Radio/Underground Garage 25 has enlisted the studio's services for the Kim Fowley Program, producing weekly shows for the legendary producer's satellite show. Lo-Fi also took a side trip into indie movie land with Jonathon Moon: Midnight Blood.
On the music front:
In the fall, Jr. Juggernaut released Stories Made of Glass, a 7 song EP recorded and mixed on analog equipment at Lo-Fi Studios in early 2006.
The band returned in December to record another six songs. The current line-up includes Mike, Wal (also in bands ISRB, It's Casual) and Kevin (Blood on the Saddle).
Bluegrass band, The Mill Creek Boys released their first CD, Florida Rose. This CD combined traditional 1940's and 1950's style bluegrass songs with original compositions. The six piece band includes acoustic instruments guitar, banjo, dobro, upright bass, mandolin and fiddle. This was a wonderful experience in terms of getting acquainted with a whole different style of music and plenty of olf-fashioned fun!
In July punk rockers Temper Tantrum completed their full length CD, The Elementary Years. The band features 10 year old Samantha on vocals and punk veterans, Abner, Bader and Mark on guitar, bass and drums. In the fall/winter '06 the band was busy in the studio and performing live, including a summer tour in Arizona.
Temper Tantrum has plans to return to record their second album in January 2007.
Nice guys from Louisville, Kentucky, Nowhere Fast came and went through the studio recording demos for their upcoming CD. The band was on their annual tour across the US when they decided that they needed to start recording some of their new songs while on the road. The band started their next album in November 2006.

After a nearly a year in the making, Rullian: Chamelleons in Disguise, Raoul Renoa's 2nd instrumental album, was released in December 2006.
The project features Raoul on acoustic and electric guitars and bass, William on acoustic and electric drums and percussion, Charlie and Chris Williams on bass, Anne on viola/violin, Chris LeRoy and Luke Williams on piano and keyboards.
Tapioca Shuhorn projects with Matt Coleman, Mustard and Slang were part of the 2006 Lo-Fi Studios schedule. Matt Coleman and Mustard (Chad Villareal) are still working their way through their respective recordings. Matt has finished tracking instruments and is going to start recording vocals in January 2007. Slang recorded at Lo-Fi and mixed the sessions with Doh! The CD should be available in early 2007.
The Jennifer Project plan to release their EP in January 2007. The four piece band has a new member, Matt from Burn on Dakota (another Lo-Fi veteran). Matt was also in the studio working on tracks for his band.
Zenith Fuzzbomb rocked out Southern California, recorded 10 songs and then went back to Texas--well, at least part of the band!
In October Lo-Fi Studios began working with the legendary Kim Fowley producing his radio show for Sirius Radio's Underground Garage. The weekly shows feature new and classic "underground rock n roll". Local bands Temper Tantrum and have been guests on some of the programs.
In this corner . . . hip hop!
Lo-Fi Studios worked with Southern California's rap community from L.A. to the I.E. throughout 2006! While some rappers came in to record a few tracks (Sies One, Lassic), others like raW liviC, AKTiv Entertainment, Celphi, Ascension and State of Mind worked on full length projects.
AKTiv Entertainment is finishing up their CD in early 2007. They ended 2006 with a show at the Knitting Factory. Kraze and Celphi also recorded their mixtapes at Lo-Fi.
Pictured here are Rayne and Celphi in the booth!
Ascension was back in the studio in the early summer months working on some tracks for his upcoming solo project as well as tracking for complilation. Ascension's Elevation CD was a digital release in 2006.
Rapper raW liviC came in to record his solo CD and ended up recording over 75 tracks. These tracks will someday be part of raW's solo project as well as MIA (with Celphi and Table Salt) among the other future projects. raW and Ascension got together and formed State of Mind which will have their debut CD in early 2007.
